NEURO - LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMINGNeuro - Linguistic Programming shows you how to monitor and adapt your thinking , break free from negative thoughts and shows you how to cultivate more useful inner beliefs about yourself and your world.
It enables you to understand what makes you tick ..... recognise how you think ..... how you feel .... basically how you make sense of the world around you !!
SO WHAT IS NEURO - LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING ?
It has grown in popularity because it offers 'Aha Moments' ....... it simply makes sense !!
It's more commonly known these days as NLP which is much easier to say and remember.
SO HOW DID IT GET THIS NAME ?
We'll break it up into single words so that you can grasp the full meaning of ' NEURO - LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING '
NEURO - NLP is based on the idea that we experience the world through our senses - sight, hearing , feeling , taste and smell to understand what is happening to you ....... and that sensory information is then translated into thoughts ...... both the ' Conscious and Unconscious '.
These thought processes then activate the ' Neurological System ' which goes on to affect our ' Physiology , our Emotions and our Behaviour '.
.
LINGUISTIC - in NLP, ' Linguistics ' is the study of how the words you speak can influence your experience in life.
It refers to how we use language to make sense of the world, and communicate that to others.
PROGRAMMING - your behaviour and the way that you organise your ideas and actions, which then produce some expected and unexpected results.
HISTORY OF NLP AND BASIC PRINCIPLES
NLP developed by RICHARD BANDLER and JOHN GRINDER in the early 1970's.
They discovered a number of processes that fitted into a ' Model ' to enhance effective communication, personal change and personal development.
BANDLER and GRINDER wanted to be able to communicate and work with people as effectively as possible by studying people that they admired such as VIRGINIA SATIR , FRITZ PERLS and MILTON ERICKSON
They wanted to understand how they achieved their levels of 'Excellence' and they used their 'Path of Discover ' as a way of showing others how to achieve success too !!
They devised processes to teach these methods to others and the basic principles are that ......
WE HAVE ALL THE RESOURCES THAT WE NEED
We have achieved success at various points in our lives and NLP suggests that we can recall the ways that we did it then .... and so we can transfer these to our present challenges !!
THE MEANING OF ANY COMMUNICATION IS THE EFFECT THAT IT HAS
We have all had the experience of writing an e-mail, sending a text or just saying something in conversation ..... and wondered why the reply was not what we expected !!
THERE IS NO FAILURE ...... ONLY FEEDBACK
' THOMAS EDISON ' used the approach of eliminating what didn't work to find out what did work when searching for the right material to use in a light bulb.
Babies don't consider themselves to be failures if they fall over when attempting to walk ...... they simply get up and try again until they achieve success .... ina nutshell ..... we learn and progress from our ' Experiences !! '
THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY ..... EVERY PERSON'S MAP IS UNIQUE
In a nutshell ..... ' My Way ' of looking at things is unique to me and ' Your Way ' is unique to you ....... we need to respect the principle that everyone's Perception of a situation is different !!
